Today’s Discounted Console and Game Delights Will Mess With Your Wallet Discipline, Just Like They Did Mine

I’ve ploughed through more release schedules than is probably healthy, but that hasn’t stopped me from dipping into the discount bin whenever gold floats to the top. This week’s crop caught me mid-caffeine sip and featured some genuine stunners. No filler, all killer, and a few legacy titles that are criminally underplayed too.

This Day in Gaming 🎂

In retro news, I’m hyper beaming 31 candles on a cake for Super Metroid, a true legend of the Super Nintendo. To say this blew my mind at launch is quite the understatement; my SNES-owning neighbour and I were glued to his CRT (especially during sleepover sessions when this game’s spookiness factor increased). Even to this day, this remains a masterpiece of the action-adventure genre, beloved for its atmosphere, level design, and exemplary 2D action that’s tighter than a zero suit leotard. Play it. Adore it. Now.

Nice Savings for Nintendo Switch

On Switch, Little Nightmares II is a masterclass in atmospheric horror platforming. Made by Tarsier Studios, it manages to be deeply unsettling without saying a single word. I was also chuffed to spot Sonic Colours: Ult. in here, as this Wii gem got a second wind with tighter controls and a lush HD reskin.

Exciting Bargains for Xbox

For Xbox Series X, RoboCop Murphy Ed. is pure fan service and the best game I’ve ever played that features Peter Weller reading parking meter citations. Cyberpunk 2077 also continues its redemption arc with deep story arcs and mechanics that finally feel finished.

Pure Scores for PlayStation

On PS5, Death Stranding 2 intrigues with a Kojima-crafted world that promises to be even stranger than the last. And if you’re after some old-school crime storytelling, Mafia: The Old Country is a visual upgrade that nails the early mobster drama vibe.

Purchase Cheap for PC

Lastly on PC, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is an unexpectedly tight Metroidvania from Ubisoft with slick movement and meaty boss fights. I also have a soft spot for Triangle Strategy, which is packed with choice-driven narrative forks that genuinely matter.
