Pearl actress will portray a villain in standalone Star Wars movie due out May 28, 2027
Mia Goth has been cast alongside Ryan Gosling in the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter, which was announced earlier this year.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that the Pearl actress will portray a villain in the movie, which is begin production this fall in anticipation of its May 28, 2027 release. While Disney hasn’t revealed Starfighter’s plot, THR adds that the film revolves around Gosling’s character protecting a young charge against evil pursuers, one of whom is Goth.
(Oscar winner Mikey Madison was originally rumored to play the Goth role, but reportedly left the project over a salary disagreement.)
The events in Star Wars: Starfighter take place five years after the Skywalker Saga concluded with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker; it’s unclear whether characters from that Skywalker Saga might pop up in the new film.
“This is a stand-alone. It’s not a prequel, not a sequel. It’s a new adventure. It’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet,” director Shawn Levy said at April’s Star Wars Celebration in Japan.
Gosling, who appeared at that event alongside Levy, added, “Being here and seeing all of you [makes it] more inspiring to do it. There’s so much creativity and imagination in this room and there’s so much love. It’s such a great reminder of how much movies can mean to us, specifically how much these movies mean to us. The force is a mysterious thing, but, as I’m here, the force is the fans. All we can hope for is, ‘May the fans be with us.’”
Star Wars: Starfighter will mark just the second Star Wars feature film since The Rise of Skywalker arrived in December 2019; The Mandalorian and Grogu, a big-screen extension of the Pedro Pascal-starring Disney+ series, hits theaters on May 22, 2026, a year before Starfighter.
