Cardi B Sued for Battery After Las Vegas Mic-Throwing Incident

An Ohio woman is suing Card B with claims the rapper overreacted and “forcefully” threw a microphone at her in retaliation for the “small portion” of a drink that the woman splashed onstage during a concert two years ago. The woman says the incident, which was investigated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department but did not result in any criminal charges against Cardi B, caused her “severe emotional distress, shock, humiliation, and physical injury.”

In the new 16-page complaint obtained by Rolling Stone, the Jane Doe plaintiff says she was on a solo trip to Nevada to see the Grammy-winning “Bodak Yellow” singer perform when the incident that was caught on video from multiple angles unfolded at Drai’s Beach Club on July 29, 2023. The woman says Cardi B was onstage amid “visibly high-temperature conditions” and “verbally requested that the audience splash her with water.”

According to the lawsuit, Cardi B “implicitly” authorized “light splashing from drinks” and poured water from a bottle over her own body before striking a pose. “Wooh that [expletive] feel good,” the rapper allegedly said as concertgoers threw various liquids toward the stage, the filing alleges.

“Acting in accordance with the environment created by Cardi B’s express words and conduct, and in a manner consistent with other attendees, [Jane Doe] splashed a small portion of her drink in Cardi B’s direction,” the new filing states. “In apparent anger and without warning,” Cardi B then “aggressively and intentionally launched” her microphone “directly” at Jane Doe, striking and injuring her, the lawsuit claims.

The plaintiff and her lawyers allege the “I Like It” rapper knew or should have known that “the water-throwing conduct” she purportedly invited posed little threat of physical injury compared to chucking “a dense and blunt object,” such as a microphone. They also allege that shortly after the incident, the microphone was put up for auction by its owner, an event that “further publicized the incident and exacerbated plaintiff’s emotional distress.”
